XxKurumi's Rurouni Kenshin Tv Review

Rurouni Kenshin

Rated: 9

Rurouni Kenshin is the entire deal. It is missing a little something, a bit in plot and music and animation, but together is something very and undeniably special. I have to say that this anime drew empathy, sympathy and compassion from me so often that I can't even remember every emotion it pulled from me. I used to dream about this series. I cannot say how profoundly I was touched, but I was touched — a lot of people were and are. And as I said, it is something special.

The best thing I can say about Rurouni Kenshin is that it is so well-rounded. Even if it is missing a little bit here and there, every element (plot, art and sound) was on equal levels, no one taking command over the other, a problem I find so often when watching anime.

XxKurumi's FLCL Tv Review

FLCL

Rated: 8

While it is true that I really do love FLCL, it doesn't warrant the higher score I would love to give it. Even though sound, animation, characterization and story are all there, it is hard to ignore how long they take to discover. Still, I recommend FLCL to anyone with the patience to stumble upon something unexpected. Even though it may not be catch your eye at first, good art takes time to appreciate. It really is worth the time.

It's very difficult to find an anime that is not afraid to be bold, and, let's face it — just a little insane.

XxKurumi's Porco Rosso Tv Review

Porco Rosso

Rated: 9

Overall, despite Disney's dubbing, Porco Rosso, is in my opinion one of Ghibli's greatest achievements (on par with Mononoke-hime and Totoro). Although I hate to discredit other opinions, I was distraught to see many people found this film boring, wasteful, and rather dull. I will say with confidence that those who believe such things have either been dissatisfied with the English voicing and never have seen it in the original format or have simply been too lazy to look beneath the surface. Porco is simply not a pig because he floated in the sky; his outsides, literally, reflect his frank disposition. Honesty, if you fail to see the magic in this film perhaps you should view it again.

XxKurumi's Nodame Cantabile Tv Review

Nodame Cantabile

Rated: 9

I love Nodame Cantabile, for all that it is and all that it isn't.

It's quirky, entertaining and, on occasion, takes itself seriously. That is, when it needs to. It is not the anime you've seen seventeen times before, nor will it be the one you see seventeen times after. It is itself, relying on its own characters to tell a story and compel us to watch. And it really did, because the cast is rather odd, but they still ask for you to pay attention. They've got something to say, problems, fears, motivations. They've got stories to tell, music to play.

It may not be the first choice for a viewer wary of the shoujo/josei universe, but I would still recommend it. Mostly because it's got a bit of everything — music, friendship, everyday struggles. But, more importantly, It's got heart.

XxKurumi's Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch Tv Review

Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch

Rated: 6

As a whole, Mermaid Melody is nice, just kind of fluffy and happy and cute — nice. From the animation, to the somewhat commonplace story and characters, there were only a few notable complaints to draw. The series idled by at a steady pace, only ever stalling when the second season, Pure, came around. It was a mildly entertaining package of magical mermaids and toe-tapping songs, nothing that will (or intended to) knock your socks off. So, if you are not shoujo-tolerant, I'd find your kicks elsewhere. But, if you are, I'd say Mermaid Melody is worth the time and a — nice — revisit to the Magical Girl past.
